The International Day of Peace falls on 21 September and it is observed all over the world.
The International Day of Peace is designed to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
Building a peaceful community for foster children to flourish is among our core principles at Ryvanz-Mia Charity. Our commitment to providing a loving home that is full of harmony, safe, and stable where children are able to thrive while remaining with their siblings creates an environment that promotes peaceful childhoods, and that is just the beginning of creating a peaceful world.
But is that the case, everywhere?
The International Day of Peace offers the world an opportunity to come together, in spirit and in action, to promote the ideals of peace and put them into practice. Unfortunately, today, we acknowledge that the world is not a peaceful place for children.
Peace means more than an absence of war. Ideally, peace is like a balance with equal weights on each side. If the balance is disturbed, then peace is lost. We are seeing this imbalance in the world today. Peace can only be achieved when there is hope and justice for people of all races and faiths; when people feel safe and their property is not taken from them.
Around 9 million people die every year of hunger and hunger-related diseases. This is more than from AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and even Covid-19 combined.
A child dies from hunger every 10 seconds
Poor nutrition and hunger are responsible for the death of 3.1 million children a year. That’s nearly half of all deaths in children under the age of 5. The children die because their bodies lack basic nutrients.
Worldwide, 822 million people suffer from undernourishment.
These are not just numbers. There are millions of children out there dying and enduring untold hardship due to poverty occasioned by violence.
Hunger is a threat to the world’s peace. Far more than terrorists can ever do.
In the midst of the pandemic which has caused a global scourge, the case is worse with little or no attention given to the less privileged.
Creating a peaceful world will begin with the eradication of hunger and by extension, poverty.
